Wakes when someone wants a lifetime in the sport beside them — how it is learned, trained and lived, and the sums from their own numbers — or is planning a round, a trip or a competition — the tee times and the course's rules, the handicap arithmetic explained by the system's rules from the golfer's own scores, the rules of golf glossed, the bag and kit list; a round log read back.

It makes a round read back — against par, Stableford, putts, fairways and greens, any tally turned into shares, a round robin laid out so that everyone plays everyone, the weeks to the day, your log read back, the day planned back from the start, conversions.

It never

• changes a swing or a grip.
• rules on a drop or a penalty for anyone.
• computes a handicap allowance the committee has not set.
