IT CAN BE WRONG an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong and can invent a number, a rule, a name or a date; check what matters against your own records and the source; the risk is yours. THE-CLAUSES.md rides in the packet and is part of the licence.

What it is.
Measures information in bits by the law of 1948, H = −Σ p log₂ p: measure reads a text or a file and gives its entropy per symbol, its bits by that count, and how far a real compressor gets; capacity gives the most a channel can carry without error, C = B log₂(1 + S/N); password gives the strength in bits of a password drawn at random from an alphabet or a word list, and says a chosen password is weaker; odds gives the bits of surprise in any chance.
It carries a machine that shows its working: measure — entropy, bits and compression; capacity — the channel's ceiling; password — random bits; odds — the bits in a one-in-N chance — 8 checks in its selftest, every command on the record. It will never call a chosen password random; never claim a link above its capacity; never read meaning into a bit count. It never helps design, make, grow, enhance or spread a pathogen or toxin, or plan work meant to harm.
Six laws, written into the card.
They are in the card itself, so the AI follows them.
BITS ARE SURPRISEA fair coin is one bit; a certain outcome is none.
SINGLE-SYMBOL COUNTSmeasure counts letters, not words or meaning; a compressor does better because it sees patterns.
THE CAPACITY IS A CEILINGNo code beats B log₂(1 + S/N); good codes come close.
RANDOM ONLYPassword strength is for random draws; a word a person chose is far weaker than the count.
READ, NOT STOREDmeasure reads the file where it is and keeps nothing.
UNITS SAIDBits, bytes and bit/s, labelled.
What rides in the card.
In the card’s own voice, with a machine that shows its working.

THE MACHINEinformation.py · four commandsmeasure — entropy, bits and compression; capacity — the channel's ceiling; password — random bits; odds — the bits in a one-in-N chance. Every command prints its working and refuses a bad input; 8 checks in its selftest, every command on the record.
What it does once your AI has it.
measure Entropy, bits and compression
capacity The channel's ceiling
password Random bits
odds The bits in a one-in-N chance
On the record A note measured at about 4 bits a letter, which a compressor beats; a 20 MHz channel at 25 dB tops out near 166 Mbit/s; 12 random characters are 78.7 bits and 6 random words 77.5; a one-in-a-million chance is 19.9 bits.
What it will never do.
It will never call a chosen password random; never claim a link above its capacity; never read meaning into a bit count. It never helps design, make, grow, enhance or spread a pathogen or toxin, or plan work meant to harm.
The single-symbol measure overstates the information in language; it is a count, not a judgement of content. It is an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong, so check what matters against your own records and the source.

ON EVERY DOOR · A CARD FOR YOUR AI, A FILE FOR YOUR COMPUTER
In Claude: turn on code execution under Settings › Capabilities, then Customize › Skills › + › Create skill, and upload the zip as it is — START-HERE.md in the box walks you through it, and tells you how to keep the ledger. In ChatGPT, Gemini and the rest: a Project, a GPT or a Gem with the card’s files attached and the short door in the box pasted as its instructions. The words run anywhere an AI reads Markdown; the machines run wherever the host runs Python. Witnessed in Claude only. The host marks →

Nº 1137 PROPOSED — LAUNCHING SOON
Sold as is under the term printed. A card instructs an AI you operate; results depend on your model, your files and your judgement. Not medical, legal, tax or financial advice, never the person’s boss, and not a licence to practise. The terms →
One payment. The file is yours to keep and keeps working at its edition; new editions issued in the year after you buy reach you by email as replacement files. Tax is added at checkout where it applies. Nothing auto-renews.
A TERM, NOT A SUBSCRIPTION: NOTHING RENEWS ITSELF AND NOBODY IS CHARGED AGAIN. WHEN A TERM ENDS THE FILES STAY ON YOUR COMPUTER AND STAY READABLE — FREEZE, NOT LOSS.

measure · ENTROPY, BITS AND COMPRESSION
$ python3 scripts/information.py measure note.txt
456 symbols · 4.3188 bits each by single-symbol counts · 1,969 bits in all (246 bytes) · stored as 456 bytes · a compressor gets it to 102 bytes
measure · ENTROPY, BITS AND COMPRESSION
$ python3 scripts/information.py measure --text abababab
8 symbols · 1.0000 bits each by single-symbol counts · 8 bits in all (1 byte) · stored as 8 bytes · a compressor gets it to 12 bytes
capacity · THE CHANNEL'S CEILING
$ python3 scripts/information.py capacity 20 MHz 25 dB
20 MHz at S/N 25 dB: at most 166,187,505 bit/s without error (1.662e+05 kbit/s); no code can do better, good codes come close

QUESTIONS AT THE TABLE
Asked before the wire.
What does it need from me?
Measure <file> · bits per symbol. It asks first for a file or a text; a bandwidth and a signal-to-noise ratio; a password's length and alphabet.
Does it send anything anywhere?
No. The machine is a standard-library Python program that runs on your own computer and sends nothing anywhere; the words run wherever an AI reads Markdown. No server, no account, no key.
What is on the record?
The self-test (8/8) and every command run on real example inputs, pasted into WITNESS.md as they printed; the punch on the face is the SHA-256 of SKILL.md, so a downloaded copy can be checked against this room.
Can it be wrong?
Yes — it is an AI reading a text file. The single-symbol measure overstates the information in language; it is a count, not a judgement of content.
What will it never do?
It will never call a chosen password random; never claim a link above its capacity; never read meaning into a bit count. It never helps design, make, grow, enhance or spread a pathogen or toxin, or plan work meant to harm.
