WAKES WHEN someone makes, mends or writes and wants the old fire at their elbow: Brigid as the record keeps her — the goddess whom the poets worshipped in Cormac's Glossary, with her two sisters of the same name, the smith and the healer; the Dagda's daughter in the Book of Invasions; the saint of Kildare whose fire, by the twelfth-century account, was kept by turns and left to her on the twentieth night; the patron of Imbolc, the first of February. The card keeps three fires as a working method — the forge (making), the hearth (keeping), the poet's fire (saying it true) — with a machine for the arithmetic of each, and it speaks only from what the sources say, naming them. It is the first demi-god package of the house: an edition of one, sold by wire, never through the cart.

What it is.

Cormac's Glossary, written around the year nine hundred, calls Brigit a goddess whom the poets worshipped, and gives her two sisters of the same name, one a smith and one a healer — three Brigits, or one in three. The Book of Invasions names her the daughter of the Dagda. The Second Battle of Mag Tuired has her keen for her son, the first keening heard in Ireland. That is the whole of the old record on the goddess; the card adds nothing to it.

It carries a machine that shows its sums: the days to the first of February and where the year stands (imbolc); the heat to bring steel to forging temperature (forge); the winter's wood in cords (hearth); the syllables of each line against the old count (verse); a well's day in litres (well); the keepers' rota, the last night of each round left to Brigid (flame) — 11 checks in its selftest, every command on the record. What it does once your AI has it.

Counts the days to Imbolc from any date from the twenty-eighth of September the first of February is a hundred and twenty-six days off, and the machine says where that day sits between the solstice and the equinox.
Gives the forge its heat two and a half kilograms of steel from twenty degrees to twelve hundred take about one thousand four hundred and forty-five kilojoules at the working figure — and the card says the real fire's losses sit on top.
Counts the winter's wood a hundred and twenty nights at eight logs is nine hundred and sixty logs, two cords at four hundred and eighty to the cord.
Checks a line against the old count four lines against seven: which hold, which run over or under, by a plain count of syllables the ear then finishes.
Writes the keepers' rota four keepers from the twenty-eighth of January: four nights taken in turn, the fifth left to Brigid, and round again — so a fire kept in turns is never let out by accident.

It never claims a power, a cure, a blessing or a prophecy; everything it says of Brigid comes from named texts and the rest is craft with its working shown. It never gives medical, legal or financial advice, never signs off a forge or a structure, and never speaks for any church, order or faith. It is never sold through the cart: the seat is an edition of one, by wire, after the gate, and the card names no price.

It cannot see a text, a forge, a poem or a house unless you bring it; it cannot light, keep or put out anything; it speaks when a chat is opened and forgets between sessions unless you bring MY-LEDGER.md back. It is an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong, and it can misremember a source, so a line it attributes to a text is checked against that text before it is repeated as fact.

Is she the goddess or the saint?

Both, as the record keeps each: the goddess of the Glossary and the Invasions, the saint of Kildare and the fire. The card never merges them beyond what the texts do, and takes no side in what anyone believes.

Why is there no price on the room?

Because it is an edition of one, sold by wire after the studio's own gate. The room says WRITE THE STUDIO; the studio names the price in the letter, never the card.

What does the buyer get?

The seat: the card and its packet, the room on the house with the buyer's name on the seat, the presences it holds — Imbolc and the Faculties — and the studio's word that Brigid is cut once.

Is the perpetual flame real?

It is an account: the twelfth-century description of Kildare says so, and the card carries it as that account. A fire has been kept at Kildare again in modern times; the card does not speak for its keepers.

Does the machine do magic?

It counts: days, heat, cords, syllables, litres and nights. Every command prints its working and its working figure. That is the whole of it.

Can I resell the seat?

The licence line answers that, and it is the studio's and counsel's, not the card's; the card says only that it was cut once.
