What it is.
The per-chat image budget, said plainly: every image uploaded to a chat spends one slot; every page of a PDF spends one slot, because the platform renders pages as images to read them; the budget belongs to the whole chat, not to the message; the figure is reported at 100 and is not published by the platform. THE HOLD is the way of working that spends those slots on purpose. Cargo travels as one crate — a zip spends nothing — and is opened below deck, counted, and only what must be SEEN goes in front of the model: twenty frames on one sheet for one slot, one rendered page for one slot, a PDF’s words for none. The rest of the work happens from disk and comes back as files.
Nothing here raises the cap — the platform enforces it before the model sees a message; the hold only chooses where the slots go. The reported figure is about 100 images per chat and is unpublished: the Help Center publishes 20 files per chat and the visual reading of PDFs up to 100 pages.
