THE FIRST RUN — the LSC-1 face
THE CARD AS TEXT · FOR EYES AND FOR MACHINES

THE FIRST RUN · the first five minutes, done with you

WAKES WHEN a card is used for the first time, or for the first time on a new computer

THE LOOP

  1. go · the self-test run here, Python named
  2. commands · what each one makes
  3. try · the first one, its answer as printed
  4. ledger · the first line, today
  5. hand over · the card is yours now

NEVER

  • Run anything but the card's own machine
  • Write anywhere but the ledger you name
  • Promise a result — an AI can be wrong

IT MAKES go — the self-test run here with Python named, every command with what it makes, and the first one to try; try — one command of the card's machine run for you, its answer shown as printed; a command the card does not have is refused with the ones it has; ledger — the first line in MY-LEDGER.md inside the unpacked card, today's date.

THE STANDARD the self-test first; the card's own first run; as printed; the ledger starts today; only the card's machine.

IT CAN BE WRONG an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong and can invent a number, a rule, a name or a date; check what matters against your own records and the source; the risk is yours. THE-CLAUSES.md rides in the packet and is part of the licence.

What it is.

Of THE WELCOME TEAM: the first five minutes with a card, done with you and not to you. It runs the card's own self-test on this computer, lists its commands with what each makes and the one to try first (the card's own first witnessed run), runs that command for you when you say so, and writes the first line in your ledger so the second session knows the first.

It carries a machine that shows its working: go — the self-test run here with Python named, every command with what it makes, and the first one to try; try — one command of the card's machine run for you, its answer shown as printed; a command the card does not have is refused with the ones it has; ledger — the first line in MY-LEDGER.md inside the unpacked card, today's date — 10 checks in its selftest, every command on the record. It will never run anything but the card's own machine; never write anywhere but the ledger you name; never promise a result — an AI can be wrong.

Five laws, written into the card.

They are in the card itself, so the AI follows them.

THE SELF-TEST FIRSTNothing is tried until the card's own self-test has passed on this computer, and the count is said.
THE CARD'S OWN FIRST RUNThe command to try first is the first one the studio witnessed, so what you see matches the record.
AS PRINTEDWhat the machine prints is shown as it printed, with its exit code; nothing is summarised.
THE LEDGER STARTS TODAYThe first line — the ask, what was proven, what was not done — is written in MY-LEDGER.md inside the card, dated.
ONLY THE CARD'S MACHINEIt runs the card's script and nothing else on this computer.

What rides in the card.

In the card’s own voice, with a machine that shows its working.

THE GUIDEreferences/THE-FIRST-FIVE-MINUTES.md
THE MACHINEfirstrun.py · three commandsgo — the self-test run here with Python named, every command with what it makes, and the first one to try; try — one command of the card's machine run for you, its answer shown as printed; a command the card does not have is refused with the ones it has; ledger — the first line in MY-LEDGER.md inside the unpacked card, today's date. Every command prints its working and refuses a bad input; 10 checks in its selftest, every command on the record.

What it does once your AI has it.

  • go The self-test run here with Python named, every command with what it makes, and the first one to try
  • try One command of the card's machine run for you, its answer shown as printed; a command the card does not have is refused with the ones it has
  • ledger The first line in MY-LEDGER.md inside the unpacked card, today's date
  • On the record The card's own self-test run here and counted against the record; every command with what it makes and the first one to try; that command tried, its answer as printed; a command the card does not have refused with the ones it has; the first ledger line written, dated today, inside the unpacked card.

What it will never do.

It will never run anything but the card's own machine; never write anywhere but the ledger you name; never promise a result — an AI can be wrong.

It runs the card's machine with the Python that runs it; a card whose machine needs an argument it cannot guess is shown the command and left to you. It writes the ledger only inside an unpacked card. It is an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong, so check what matters against your own records and the source.

QUESTIONS AT THE TABLE

Asked before the wire.

What does it need from me?

Go · the self-test run here, Python named. It asks first for the card's packet, and a few minutes.

Does it send anything anywhere?

No. The machine is a standard-library Python program that runs on your own computer and sends nothing anywhere; the words run wherever an AI reads Markdown. No server, no account, no key.

What is on the record?

The self-test (10/10) and every command run on real example inputs, pasted into WITNESS.md as they printed; the punch on the face is the SHA-256 of SKILL.md, so a downloaded copy can be checked against this room.

Can it be wrong?

Yes — it is an AI reading a text file. It runs the card's machine with the Python that runs it; a card whose machine needs an argument it cannot guess is shown the command and left to you. It writes the ledger only inside an unpacked card.

What will it never do?

It will never run anything but the card's own machine; never write anywhere but the ledger you name; never promise a result — an AI can be wrong.
