THE AFFILIATE PLAYBOOK — the LSC-1 face
THE CARD AS TEXT · FOR EYES AND FOR MACHINES

THE AFFILIATE PLAYBOOK · A small nonprofit's year run from the director's own playbook: calendar, acknowledgments, board packets.

WAKES WHEN A director sets up the year's calendar. · Gifts came in and acknowledgments are due. · A board meeting needs its packet.

THE LOOP

  1. Set the year: meetings and the return date
  2. Draft acknowledgments by printed thresholds
  3. Build the board packet from the playbook
  4. Leave every figure to the treasurer

NEVER

  • Never puts a value on a noncash gift
  • Never certifies a figure
  • Never gives tax or legal advice

IT MAKES calendar — board meetings, the information-return due date from the rule in org.json (NO DUE-DATE RULE SET if absent, exit 1), and state items only if org.json lists them; acks — lists gifts that meet the thresholds in org.json and writes one letter draft per gift into the --out folder; a threshold not set prints NO THRESHOLD SET and its rule is skipped (exit 1); board-packet — agenda skeleton: consent items, finance, programs, open items from the playbook's headings; export — the organization and its gift records as one JSON document.

THE LAW The director's playbook leads. The card turns it into a calendar, drafts and packets, using only the thresholds and dates the treasurer sets, and leaves every number and signature to the people accountable for them.

What it is.

Use when a small nonprofit's director runs the year: board calendar, return due date, donor acknowledgment drafts and board packets from their playbook. Not tax or legal advice.

It carries a machine that shows its working: calendar — board meetings, the information-return due date from the rule in org.json (NO DUE-DATE RULE SET if absent, exit 1), and state items only if org.json lists them; acks — lists gifts that meet the thresholds in org.json and writes one letter draft per gift into the --out folder; a threshold not set prints NO THRESHOLD SET and its rule is skipped (exit 1); board-packet — agenda skeleton: consent items, finance, programs, open items from the playbook's headings; export — the organization and its gift records as one JSON document — 20 checks in its selftest. It never puts a value on a noncash gift; never certifies a figure; never gives tax or legal advice.

The law, written into the card.

It is in the card itself, so the AI follows it.

THE LAWThe director's playbook leads. The card turns it into a calendar, drafts and packets, using only the thresholds and dates the treasurer sets, and leaves every number and signature to the people accountable for them.

The method.

  1. Set the year from the organization's fiscal year end and meeting months. The information return's due date is worked out from the rule the organization sets in its own file; with no rule set it prints NO DUE-DATE RULE SET. State items appear only if the director lists them.
  2. Draft an acknowledgment for each gift that needs one, by the thresholds the treasurer sets in the organization's file; with none set it prints NO THRESHOLD SET and drafts nothing for that rule. A gift with goods or services states what was given and the organization's own estimate, then waits for the treasurer's wording. Noncash gifts are described, never valued.
  3. Build each board packet's agenda from the director's own playbook headings: consent items, finance, programs, open items.
  4. Mark every draft for the treasurer or the director to check before it goes out.

What you bring.

  • Your organization's fiscal year end and meeting months.
  • The acknowledgment thresholds and return due-date rule, confirmed by your treasurer or accountant.
  • Your gift records.
  • Your own playbook: how you run the year.

Planned as a separate seat, not in this box and not yet on sale: the studio's own nonprofit playbook.

What it does once your AI has it.

  • calendar Board meetings, the information-return due date from the rule in org.json (NO DUE-DATE RULE SET if absent, exit 1), and state items only if org.json lists them
  • acks Lists gifts that meet the thresholds in org.json and writes one letter draft per gift into the --out folder; a threshold not set prints NO THRESHOLD SET and its rule is skipped (exit 1)
  • board-packet Agenda skeleton: consent items, finance, programs, open items from the playbook's headings
  • export The organization and its gift records as one JSON document

What it will never do.

It never puts a value on a noncash gift; never certifies a figure; never gives tax or legal advice.

Where it hands off: Tax questions → the treasurer or an accountant; Volunteer days → THE VOLUNTEER DAY; Governance disputes → counsel.

It is not tax or legal advice. It is an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong, so check what matters against your own records and the source. The holder brings their own AI; no endorsement by Anthropic or any other AI company is claimed.

What’s in the buy.

  • SKILL.md — the card your AI reads: when it wakes, the loop, the never-lines, the hand-offs.
  • CARD.md — the whole card in ten sections: face, law, method, machine, what you bring, never, tests, seal, term.
  • scripts/affiliate.py — the machine, Python standard library only; `selftest` proves it on its own fixtures.
  • tests/EVALS.json and scripts/evals.py — 8 test prompts and the offline runner that scores your AI's answers.
  • references/ — the data schema and FICTIONAL demo files, invented to show the machine, not real.
  • MY-LEDGER.md — your own record of what you asked and what you decided.
  • START-HERE.md, system/short-prompt.md, system/rules.md — the doors, for any AI with or without skills.
  • card.svg, card.json, card.html, AUDIT.md, MANIFEST.md, WITNESS.md, SELFTEST.md — the faces and the proof.
  • NOT IN THE BOX — any studio edition (planned, not yet on sale: the studio's own nonprofit playbook). Also not in the box: any data you must bring, and advice of any kind (not tax or legal advice).

THE RUN IS PASTED FROM THE CARD’S OWN SELFTEST.MD AS PRINTED. ITS FIXTURES ARE FICTIONAL, INVENTED FOR THE TEST; NO PRIVATE PERSON IS NAMED.

QUESTIONS AT THE TABLE

Asked before the wire.

What does it need from me?

Your organization's fiscal year end and meeting months. The acknowledgment thresholds and return due-date rule, confirmed by your treasurer or accountant. Your gift records. Your own playbook: how you run the year. If something it needs is missing, it says what is missing and stops there.

Does it send anything anywhere?

No. The machine is a standard-library Python program that runs on your own computer and sends nothing anywhere; the words run wherever an AI reads Markdown. No server, no account, no key.

What is on the record?

The machine's selftest (20/20), run from inside the packet in Claude on 2026-10-13 on fictional fixtures and pasted into SELFTEST.md as printed; the twelve-check audit (AUDIT.md). Owed, and said so in WITNESS.md: The 8 test prompts asked in fresh chats with the card installed. Until they are run and scored, the tests are owed. Any run on real data. Every demo file is fictional. The punch on the face is the SHA-256 of SKILL.md, so a downloaded copy can be checked against this room.

Can it be wrong?

Yes — it is an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong and can invent a number, a rule, a name or a date; check what matters against your own records and the source; the risk is yours. LICENSE-NOTE.md rides in the packet and is the licence. It is not tax or legal advice.

What will it never do?

It never puts a value on a noncash gift; never certifies a figure; never gives tax or legal advice.
