WAKES WHEN a card does not work, an error appears, or an AI does not pick the card up
THE LOOP
read · what the error means, what to do
check · the packet against its own record
mend · the steps, from the card's folder
report · the note for the studio, at need
hand over · back to the first run
NEVER
Change a card, or speak for one
Send anything anywhere
Run anything but the card's own self-test
IT MAKES read — what the error means and what to do, step by step; a file name reads the error from the file; check — the packet against its own manifest (every file's fingerprint), its door, its punch, Python, its self-test — ALL WELL or SOMETHING TO MEND, with the line that says what; report — the note for the studio: the card, its edition and punch, this computer, the check, the error as pasted.
THE STANDARD the last line first; against the card's own record; nothing is edited; the note carries no file of yours; when it does not know, it says so.

IT CAN BE WRONG an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong and can invent a number, a rule, a name or a date; check what matters against your own records and the source; the risk is yours. THE-CLAUSES.md rides in the packet and is part of the licence.

What it is.
Of THE WELCOME TEAM: when a card does not work, it reads the error and says what to do in plain steps. It knows the shapes things break in — no Python, an old Python, a file not found, a wrong folder, a zip that is not a zip, a changed file, a door the AI does not pick up, a failed self-test — and for each one says what to do; it checks a packet against its own manifest, door, punch and self-test on one screen; and when the studio must see it, it writes the note to paste in the card's room.
It carries a machine that shows its working: read — what the error means and what to do, step by step; a file name reads the error from the file; check — the packet against its own manifest (every file's fingerprint), its door, its punch, Python, its self-test — ALL WELL or SOMETHING TO MEND, with the line that says what; report — the note for the studio: the card, its edition and punch, this computer, the check, the error as pasted — 12 checks in its selftest, every command on the record. It will never change a card, or speak for one; never send anything anywhere; never run anything but the card's own self-test.
Five laws, written into the card.
They are in the card itself, so the AI follows them.
THE LAST LINE FIRSTAn error is read by its last line, the one that matters; what it means and what to do are said in plain steps.
AGAINST THE CARD'S OWN RECORD`check` reads the packet against its own manifest and punch, so a changed file is named by name.
NOTHING IS EDITEDThe mender names what to do; it never edits a card's files.
THE NOTE CARRIES NO FILE OF YOURSA report names the card, its edition and punch, this computer and the error — nothing else.
WHEN IT DOES NOT KNOW, IT SAYS SOAn error of a shape it does not know still gets the four steps anyone can take.
What rides in the card.
In the card’s own voice, with a machine that shows its working.

On the record Four errors read — no Python, a file not found, a card not picked up, one of no known shape — each with what to do; a real card checked whole against its own manifest, door, punch and self-test; a guide edited by hand named by name; the note for the studio written with the card, the computer, the check and the error.
What it will never do.
It will never change a card, or speak for one; never send anything anywhere; never run anything but the card's own self-test.
It knows the shapes the house has seen; an error of another shape gets the four general steps. It runs the card's self-test to check it and nothing else; it cannot see what your AI did with the card, only what the machine printed. It is an AI reading a text file: it can be wrong, so check what matters against your own records and the source.

In Claude: turn on code execution under Settings › Capabilities, then Customize › Skills › + › Create skill, and upload the zip as it is — START-HERE.md in the box walks you through it, and tells you how to keep the ledger. In ChatGPT, Gemini and the rest: a Project, a GPT or a Gem with the card’s files attached and the short door in the box pasted as its instructions. $ python3 scripts/mender.py read bash: python3: command not found
NO PYTHON · The computer cannot find Python, so no machine can run.
1. Install Python 3 from python.org (any version from 3.8 on), or on a Mac type `python3` once in Terminal and accept the install it offers.
2. Then run the command again in a new terminal window.
3. On Windows, if `python3` is not known but `python` is, use `python` in place of `python3`.

NO SUCH FILE · The file or folder named in the command is not where the command was run from.
1. Open a terminal in the card's folder (the one with SKILL.md in it) and run the command from there: the path `scripts/<machine>` is read from that folder.
2. Check the file name letter for letter; the house names are lower case with dashes.
3. If you gave your own file, give its full path, or put it in the card's folder first.

$ python3 scripts/mender.py read Claude has the card but does not use it when I ask
NOT PICKED UP · The AI has the card but is not picking it up.
1. Say the card's name in your first sentence — "THE ROBOTAXI — …" — and say what you have in front of you.
2. In the Claude app, check the skill is listed and switched on where skills are added; in Claude Code, check the folder is `.claude/skills/<handle>/` with SKILL.md directly inside it.
3. Make sure the ask matches what the card is for: the door says when it wakes; THE GREETER prints it.

NOT A SHAPE I KNOW — but here is what to do with any error:
1. Read the last line of the error: that is the one that matters; the lines above it say where it came from.
2. Run the command again from the card's own folder, with `python3 --version` 3.8 or newer.
3. Run `mender.py check <packet>` to see whether the packet itself is whole.
4. If it still fails, `mender.py report <packet> "<the error>"` writes the note for the studio; paste it in the card's room on lundr.tech.

QUESTIONS AT THE TABLE
Asked before the wire.
What does it need from me?
Read · what the error means, what to do. It asks first for the error as it printed, or the card's packet.
Does it send anything anywhere?
No. The machine is a standard-library Python program that runs on your own computer and sends nothing anywhere; the words run wherever an AI reads Markdown. No server, no account, no key.
What is on the record?
The self-test (12/12) and every command run on real example inputs, pasted into WITNESS.md as they printed; the punch on the face is the SHA-256 of SKILL.md, so a downloaded copy can be checked against this room.
Can it be wrong?
Yes — it is an AI reading a text file. It knows the shapes the house has seen; an error of another shape gets the four general steps. It runs the card's self-test to check it and nothing else; it cannot see what your AI did with the card, only what the machine printed.
What will it never do?
It will never change a card, or speak for one; never send anything anywhere; never run anything but the card's own self-test.
